Club Reports

Wednesday night club runs 02 April 2010

We are starting our Wednesday night Club runs. As usual they are starting on the Mall Armagh at 7:00 pm as the daylight is limited at the moment it is important that we start on time. Initially we will be going on shorter rides and finish off back at the mall. Wednesday night bruns tend to be quite fast so if you are a beginer Staurdays are a better place to start. See you all there

Club Meeting 21 April 2010

The meeting was held on the 20th April 2010 in Richhill Recreation center the following items were up for Discussion

  1. Update on the Clothing order
  2. Armagh sports award ceremony
  3. Family Fun day's at Loughall country Park
  4. Charity event for 2010
  5. Regular Club meetings
  6. Spinning Classes

1. The clothing will be at Maxgear on the 24th May so they require the remainder of the money for the clothing one week prior to that date to allow the cheque to clear. So can Club members please get any outstanding money to either Judith or Terry by the 12th of May. If you are not sure please ask Terry. We should receive the order on the 25th may 2010.

2. Terry told the Meeting that the club has received an offer to put a display on at the Armagh Sports Forum Sports Awards again this year. Richard and Terry explained that we would be expected to put a display up in the foyer of the City Hotel then attend the awards ceremony that night. Both Richard and Terry felt that there was no appreciable benefit to the club and that they would not be putting on a display. Terry asked the members present if any of them would like to put a display on. None of the members present wished to do so.

3.The Family Fun Day's at Loughall Park. Terry told the meeting that Armagh Council had approached him and asked the club to put the guided cycle rides around Loughall park on again this year. Initially they asked us to start in Easter but the notice was too short. The meeting felt that it is beneficial to the club to run these fun days as we are paid £50.00 per week to the club and at the moment this is a good source of revenue. It was pointed out that either Frances , Richard or Terry will have to be there each week as they are the only members that are allowed to sign for the bikes in the pod, and that we would need another three club members each week to run the rides properly. We intend to run the rides for a six week period from the middle to the end of July if this fits with the Council's requirements. Frances is going to liaise with Armagh Council.

4. We discussed this years charity event it was suggested that we look at Portadown Meadow,s shopping center to hold the event this year but that if this was not possible that we would be happy to return to the Mall shopping center Armagh. Terry asked about which charity we felt that we should raise the money for this year Judith suggested Heartbeat and Deirdre suggested one of the lesser known charities eg the homeless. We felt that both are worthy and that we should split the money 50 50 between the two. We asked Judith if Heart beat would be prepared to supply bag packers and we will also approach the other charity for the same. Richie is going to look into the venue and let us know at the next meeting. It was felt that we should wait until September or October to hold the event.

5. Terry told the meeting that in his opinion that certain things within the club had started to slip somewhat and that he felt that this was because we were not meeting regularly to highlight problems as they arise and that we should have regular meetings with the date for the next meeting agreed before the end of each meeting. All present agreed.

6. Terry asked the meeting for their feelings on holding spinning classes again this year all were in favour. We agreed that they should start on the 1st week in October with a break for Christmas and run to Feb./March Kieran suggested that the classes should cost £2.50 per class and should be paid for one month at a time thus guaranteeing the room is paid for and bringing some revenue into the club.

7. Club Rides Paul Stewart suggested that the club commit to doing the Tour of South Armagh and the Sperrin Challenge this year. The meeting decided that we should have a joint club ride on the Saturday before the tour of South Armagh could club members please contact Paul Stewart click here to email him and let him know if you will be doing the above rides. Thank you

Judith asked the meeting if Steady CC would help with Cody's Challenge again this year and we agreed that we would. She told the meeting that Stephen and herself are meeting with Juiced Orchard soon and would pass on our offer of help.

Charlie suggested a weekend away for the club. He suggested traveling on the ferry as foot passengers to Troon and the about a 15 mile cycle to Ardrossan with a short ferry trip to Arran Island on the Friday then Saturday a cycle around Arran island and returning on the Sunday. Charlie is going to check into this and let us have more detail at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be on the 27th of May 2010 location to be announced.
